Think the kind of thoughts that lead you to a fuller life and satisfying success
Faith in yourself makes good things happen to you.
"Of the many great books I have read, the most inspiring to me is The Power of Positive Thinking, by Dr. Norman Vincent Peale. The book is both very inspirational and highly motivating. It touches upon every aspect for successful living, such as believing in yourself and replacing negative thoughts with positive ones. It provides a practical guide for everyday living." -- R. David Thomas, Wendy's International
Book Review by Edward R. Book, CEO, Hershey Entertainment and Resort Company
Let me suggest that it is very difficult to pull out one publication and indicate that it was the foundation for a lifetime. I believe that we tend to respond to and utilize different publications at different times in our life. Peter Drucker's Management from the late 50s; Peter Druckers Managing in Turbulent Times, from the 70s; Megatrends and In Search of Excellence, all would be business-oriented publications which I found to be very useful in my business environment. However, were I to suggest one book which has been with me for many years and that I return to in many different situations, I would suggest that Norman Vincent Peale's The Power of Positive Thinking can help see you through many stormy days.
The encouragement to hang on just a little longer, to persist, to wait for the next surprise wich life might bring you is the encouragement which we all need -- I believe -- regardless of the environment in which we are working. Therefore, I would saya that Peale's Positive Thinking would be the book I have profited from the most over the long term.
"I picked up The Power of Positive Thinking when I was a college freshman on an athletic scholarship. Dr. Peale's philosophy of faith and positive thinking helped me win ball games and, more importantly, made me decide that I could be whatever I wanted to be. Those principles of faith and positive thinking stayed with me through a successful Navy career and helped me stay spiritually strong for six years as a prisoner of war in Vietnam. In fact, it was positive thinking and a deep faith in God that enabled me to survive my captivity and come home to freedom." -- Eugene B. McDaniel, Capt USN Ret., American Defense Foundation
